ESTUDO DE COR EM REABILITAÇÃO URBANA / COLOUR STUDY IN URBAN REHABILITATION - 9
Este exercício propunha a aplicação dos conceitos teóricos adquiridos nas aulas a uma situação real e concreta: elaborar um Estudo de Cor para um edifício existente, integrado numa área urbana de Lisboa. Este projecto deveria ser sustentado teóricamente e apresentado através de simulação digital, conforme metodologia proposta pelo docente . O texto deveria explicar a adequação da proposta aos aspectos formais e arquitectónicos do edifício em que se aplica, à situação urbana, e aos aspectos da percepção da cor, física, psicológica, simbólica e estética.
In this assignment the students have to elaborate a Colour Study to a real urban situation, in Lisbon area, theoretically sustained and presented through digital simulation. The theoretical concepts taught in class should be applied and presented in a text. The text should explain how the proposed project deal with the formal aspects of architecture and how it applies to the urban situation, using the aspects of color perception, physical, psychological, symbolic and aesthetic.

" ...I came up with the objective of my work - to give the neighborhood aesthetical appearance, but don't make it fancy or eye-catching. The idea was to keep it simple but cozy for residents and passers by. The best solution to achieve it seemed to be achromatic palette of colors. What's more, neighborhood is quite green , so neutral colors would make a calm background for trees, whereas any other bright colors could appear in disharmony with vegetation."

"A cor pode ser um elemento determinante para a alteração de um ambiente menos positivo, quer seja visual ou social, atribuindo assim, outro sentido de urbanidade ao espaço. No entanto, a aplicação de cor não poder ser de modo despreocupado, na medida em que cada cor tem um significado e consequentemente influências psicológicas nos indivíduos. A complementaridade entre o carácter arquitectónico – procura da “beleza” – e o carácter humano é, assim, o meio para qualquer tipo de intervenções deste tipo."
"Color can be a determinant factor in the change of a less positive environment, whether visual or social origin, thus giving another sense of urbanity to the space. However, the application of color can not be careless, as each color has a meaning and results in psychological influences in individuals. The complementarity between the architectural character - the pursuit of "beauty" - and human nature should be the goal for any of such interventions.

" The dominant color is the midrange blue. The lighter and darker blues are in analogous harmony with it, creating the background. The orange and red are complementary colors to the blue colors, creating a complementary harmony. The ratio between the cold and warm colors is determined by Goethe's theory, with a small amount of bright colors oppose the background of the darker blue, in order to create a harmonious balance between them. The contrast between the cold color background and the warm color "fish" highlights also creates more interest.
The design is continuous on the facade, but on the exposed concrete the colors are de- saturated in order to emphasize the modernist exposed concrete design. The paint is meant to complement the building and not to cover the original facade design."

In the actual situation"... the structure, in dark orange, is stronger than the colour of the background, and that makes it more important than the logement's surface. I wanted to use the opposite system, and make the housing surfaces more important than the structure. So all the structure is in grey in order to use it as a neutral grid, a background for the rest of the colours. Grey was choosed because it can be linked with powerfull saturated colours and they don't appear too much bright." "The intention was to use a main colour combinated with elements in white to make clear the global volumetry of the building. I also use a complementary hot and cold contrast in some particular elements like the stairs, or sometimes just to brake the monotony and the rythm of the façade."Monday, February 1, 2010
CHEVREUL_harmonia por contraste de matiz / harmony in contrast of hue
Chevreul no seu "De la Loi du Contraste Simultané des Couleurs et de L'assortiment des Objets Colorés" (1839) estabelece que existe Harmonia quer na analogia quer no contraste de matizes e de claro/escuro. Os alunos deviam neste exercício encontrar exemplos de Harmonia de Contraste entre matizes no seu quotidiano e registá-lo por fotografia digital.

ITTEN_contraste de quente/frio • warm/cold colour contrast
Johannes Itten no seu "Art of Color" define 7 contrastes fundamentais de cor. Aos alunos foi pedido que identificassem e captassem exemplos do Contraste de Quente-Frio utilizando elementos do seu quotidiano, registando-os depois em fotografia digital.
Johannes Itten in his "Art of Color" defines 7 key contrasts of colour. The students were asked to identify and capture examples of Warm-Cold Contrast using elements of their daily lives, and to recording them in digital photography.
